Embrace Uncomfortable

Essential takeaway: Lights are lights.

I have never run a marathon, but I imagine ending a marathon feeling much like ending the year 2020. This year has been…. long. Over Thanksgiving weekend, a couple of my kids were excited to help me decorate for Christmas. I was enjoying the more hands off approach to decorating. It wasn’t until later in the evening, that I noticed the lights they put outside. Humm.

Clearly, they had not done the all important check of the lights. Rule number one is check the lights to make sure they all work before exerting any effort to putting them up. I had already been to the store about 12 times that day. It was now dark, cold, and I really wanted to put my pajamas on. After discussing the disastrous light issue with my husband, we decided to learn the lessons 2020 has taught us. Embrace it. Let the uncomfortable and imperfection wash over you while binge watching Netflix.

We decided to accept our crash and burn attempt at finishing out 2020. We have learned that lights are not essential. We have a warm house, healthy children, good employment, and there will be too many presents under the tree. What things have you learned to let go of during 2020?
